- Take a course or sailing lessons from an established sail training organisation. There are many of these, some are part of sailing clubs, some are not.
- Visit a sailing club. Where you may be able to join as a temporary member or simply be signed in as a visitor. Many sailors are more than willing to impart their knowledge and help newcomers learn the sport of sailing.
- Learn by helping friends or family that have a boat and need a hand sailing their dinghy or yacht.
If you are going to pay for a training course, whether it is incorporated in a vacation or as at alone sailing school, do check that the course is approved by an appropriate body. Most countries have a National Sailing Authority that certifies training establishments and sets standards, these sailing authoritioes report to the International Sailing Federation and your appropriate authority can be found on their web site.
