Historic Thames Sailing Club

Thames Sailing Club is the oldest inland racing sailing club in Britain set nearly half way between Hampton Court Bridge and Kingston Bridge, along Portsmouth Road.

Steeped in history, Thames Sailing Club is the home of the almighty Thames A Raters. Designed specifically for the Thames with their 44 foot high masts to capture every last piece of wind from above the trees these boats are absolutely breathtaking to watch dancing along the Thames.

A few of them break cover and head to compete in the Three Rivers Race directly after their Nationals at the end of May - traditionally held at their sister club, Upper Thames Sailing Club.

One rater - Number 14 'Spindrift' - helmed by Martin Hunter (ten times rater national champion) - dares to venture a little further afield having taken part in many Bloody Mary Race's, The Boat Shows (at Excel), the Snowflake Series at Chichester, 3Rivers (currently holder of the fastest passage ever) and - more recently - at the Lord Birkett Memorial Race at Ullwater.

The clubhouse is still the original building built in the 1800's covered in memorabilia from it's nearly 140 year history.

Very friendly, relaxed and the best spot on earth to watch the sun going down over Hampton Court.
